Reading and Writing Test at Junior High School

Generally, there are two main points of learning English Test for Junior High School Students, namely, reading and writing. We may ask why doesnot teacher design a transactional and interpersonal? Because they are taught orally in the teaching and learning activity. Reading test includes functional text and genres. Otherwise, writing includes word order and sentence order.

Here, the teacher can tell them the material outline in each points. For example, reading test indicators outlines is clear, and also writing indicators clear too.

Reading test

A. Functional text (card, advertisement, message, letter,announcement)

In this text, the students focuses their learning through indicators that will be achieved. It can be shown below;

1. Determine the general idea of the text

2. Determine the specific idea of the text

3. Discover the synonym and antonym of the text

4. Discover the meaning of the word or phrase

5. Determine the reference word

B. Genres

In this kind of text, the students in all level of Junior High School focuses their learning through the schematic structure of the certain genres. Such as; descriptive, procedure, recount, narrative or report. The genres test form usually concern with the indicators that will be achieved. The indicators are stated above. In brief, they are;

1. Determine the general idea of the text

2. Determine the specific idea of the text

3. Discover the synonym and antonym of the text

4. Discover the meaning of the word or phrase

5. Determine the reference word

Writing Test

Writing test that is usually given to the Junior High School students in all level includes word and sentence order. In this test, students are expected to learn how the word or sentence built into good order. So, the indicators that will be expected are;

1. Able to arrange word into good sentence

2. Able to arrange sentence into good paragraph.

All ilustration that writer explains may not be the best tips for the tester (teacher) to construct a test in other Junior High School. Therefore I really request to all tester to exchange their best experience through their comment. I wait you soon

Three steps of mastering Report Text

Report text is one of the five text, such as; descriptive, narrative, recount, procedure that are taught in Junior High School. Report text is taught to grade nine of Junior High School. From the teacher’s experience and other teachers sources. Here are the three steps applied for learning. They are:

I. Definition of Report text
Report is a text which informs something, as it is. It is constructed as a result of systematic observation and analysis.

II. Generic Structure of Report text
1. General classification

Stating classification of general aspect of thing; animal, public place, plant, etc which will be discussed in general

2. Description

Describing the thing, animal, public place, plant, which will be discussed in detail.

III. Language Feature of Report text
• Introducing group or general aspect
• Using conditional logical connection; when, so, etc
• Using simple present tense

Text 1

HEART

( General Classification)

The heart is the most important part of the body. It is the center of life. However, the heart is only as big as a closed hand.

The heart is a muscle and it beats about seventy times per minute throughthout a person’s life.

(Description)

The heart pumps blood from your heart to all parts of your body. The heart is made up of four chambers or small “rooms”. The top chamber are called the right and left auriclesand the botttom chambers are the right and left ventricles.

When blood enters the heart. It is in dark reddish color because it countains carbon dioxide. The blood enters the right auricle and then the right ventricle. When the heart contracts, it forces the blood to the lungs where the blood receives oxygen. It then goes to the left auricle. The heart contracts again, and the blood goes to the left ventricle and is then forced out into the body. The blood gathers carbon dioxide and returns to the heart, and the process begins again. PLANT

(General Classification)

Plants are living beings. They need food, water and air for survival.

(Description)

Plants derive their food from the earth and the air. If you look at their roots, you will find that ends of these roots are like fine fibers. We call them root-hairs. They absorb water and minerals, then transport them upwards to the leaves through the trunk and the branches. It is the leaves which prepare the food.

(Description)

The green material, chlorophyll, prepares the food like a machine. It converts the carbon dioxide taken from the air and water from the ground into sugar with the help of sunlight. This chemical reaction is called photosynthes. In fact, the chlorophyll takes energy from the sunlight and uses it to synthesize the hydrogen from water and carbon from carbon dioxide for making sugar. This reaction also gives out oxygen and water which are excreted by the leaves.

The Simple Future Tense

The Simple Future Tense is the one of sixteen tenses in English Learning. Also it is belong to one of the five basic English, such as; Simple Present Tense, Simple Past Tense, Present Continuous Tense, and Present Perfect Tense. The Simple Future is used to explain something will be done in the future. This tense is usually applied as a prediction

In the sentence, The Simple Future tense is formed by adding “will” before the base of the verb. For example,

I will study the Simple Future tomorrow.

He will help you learn the Simple Future Tense tomorrow.

Remember that It doesn’t matter what the subject is the sentence form; just put “will” after the subject and before the base form of the verb.

Simple Future Tense Pattern

Applying the theory may not effective, it sometimes makes the learners becomes frustrated. Therefore the teacher should combine the teaching ways such as a theory and practises.

Simple Past Tense is used to express past activity or past action with a definite time.

A.2. The Kind of Simple Past Tense sentence

There are two kinds of sentences in the Simple Past Tense, they are verbal and nominal sentences. Verbal means the sentence must use infinitive and preterite in writing sentences. It can be seen to the regular an irregular verb table.

A.3. The Form of The Simple Past Tense Sentences

There are three form of Simple Past Tense sentences, they are affirmative, negative and interrogative

B. Practises

Practises should be given as more as possible to the students because the students are expected to be able to write the form of the sentences at the end of the teaching an learning the materials. The test should start from the simple to the complete ones. The simple test means that test is constructed by inserting word to incomplete sentences. On the other hand, the complete test means that the students try to construct the form of the sentence by allow them to write according to the their knowledge of The Simple Past Tense that they get from prior teaching and learning process.

The pattern of writing sentences based on th kind and the form as follows;

Verbal sentences

Affirmative : subject +V2 +object+adverb

Negative : subject + did not +V1+object+adverb

Interrogative : Did +subject + V1 + object + adverb?

Nominal sentences

Affirmative : (he, she, it, I) + was +object + adverb

Negative : ( He, She, It, I) + was not + adverb

Interrogative : was + (he, she, it, I) +object + adverb?

Cloze test application to the students

Cloze test is a kind of incomplete reading or sentence tests. It is so difficult to do for students who don’t have any capability or poor vocabulary. In the test, testees are demanded to comprehend the use of vocabulary correctly. For low level students, cloze test makes them boring because they must open dictionary very often. That is why, most of students in one class got bad mark.

In this writing, a writer tries to show you the form of the cloze test that writer took from a teacher hand book entitle “ Building Blocks English Competency for year VII SMP/MTs written by Ignasia M.H et al.

Test one: Complete the passage with the appropriate word!

Last week, Dewi (1)..... how to cook rice she ...cooking was not very difficult. So, she (2)... try to some other meals. Yesterday, when she was standing in the living room, she (3)... some interesting books on the shelf. One of them was a cooking. “wow”, she (4) ... to herself. Now I can learn how to cook with this book. The cooking book (5).. a lot of receipes and instructions on how to cook various meals

From the test given above, the teacher gets more information of students test result. Almost seventy five percent students fail to to the test. So teacher tries to ask students’ problems. From the students’ opinion, they say that they found many difficulties to select a word that better used, they take the word from the dictionary and use it directly to the passage

As a teaacher, I try to think and apply a way that support me to overcome the problem. I try to help them with the second test or remedial

From the test given above, the teacher scores shows that the students test result is better than test one. Students can save their time efisiently. They need less works while doing the test because there are words choice to complete the passage.

The way that I do may be the one of thousand ways strategy in teaching and doing cloze test. It is useful for my special characteristic students. But is may be useless for the other school. Therefore, the application of teaching way should be considered before bring it into your students.

English Sentence Construction

Sentence is a unity of words that providing a meaning. Sentence contains two parts. They are subject and predicate. Therefore sentence begin with a capital letter(for example;A) and stopped with a dot(.)

In the teaching and learning process, the teacher “ classroom teacher “ usually teches the sentence by the following steps:

A. introducing kind of sentences

B. introducing the forms of the sentence

C. introducing the elements construction of the sentence

D. providing an oral and written test

Introducing kind of sentences

Teaching the seventh grade learners (SMP ) need more effective ways, because the students will be boring while the teacher teaches them through the theory of the sentence. Therefore the teaching material will be useless. So the teacher must begin his teaching by associate mother tounge and target language (English). So far, I am a classroom teacher try to apply my own way for comprehending my students. I begin with the general ways. I give them a Pattern used in the indonesian and english culture, look the example;

Indonesia

1. Buku baru

2. Buku berwarna merah yang baru

English

1. Baru buku (new book)

2. Yang berwarna merah baru buku ( a new red book)

Based on the examples above, I conclude that the structure used is quiet different. In Indonesia, We use ( DM) Diterangkan Menerangkan (look google translate) rule, but in English, we use (MD) Menerangkan Diterangkan (look google translate) rule. This situation mest be known by the the students, it reminds them to be able to write the sentence correctly.

In the next running time, I also tell them the kind of the sentences. Commonly, there are two kind of sentence. They are verbal and nominal . verbal sentence demands the acquisition of verb (action verb), such as ; infinitive, preterite, past participle. Otherwise, niminal sentence demands the use of be and auxiliary verb (present and past form). Be for instance; is, am, are, was, were and been. In addition, auxiliary verb can be; can, may, must, shall, will, do, did, does, had.

Introducing the forms of the sentence

The forms of the sentence is taught to the students after they had been learning the pattern of the sentence construction. By simply way, the teacher can write the form of the three simple sentences forms, such as; affirmative, negative, and interrogative sentences. Look at the examples below;

Simple sentence (use be and action verb)

Affirmative

Mother cooks rice. ( ibu memasak nasi )

Mother is in the kitchen ( ibu berada di dapur )

Negative

Mother doesnot cook rice. ( ibu tidak memasak nasi )

Mother is not in the kitchen ( ibu tidak berada di dapur )

Interrogative

Does mother cook rice?( apakah ibu memasak nasi? )

Is mother in the kitchen? ( apakah ibu berada di dapur?)

Introducing the elements the sentence construction

As stated above that sentence is constructed into to elements. They are ; subject and predicate. Subject is the answer of “ who” or “What”. Predicate is a unit complements in the sentence. Look at the examples;

1. Mother cooks rice in the kitchen

2. Father is in the garden

3. He came to my house yesterday

4. Book is important

From the three sentences, we analyze that ; mother,father, he and book are the subjects.

But cooks rice in the kitchen, is in the garden, and is important are predicates.

Providing an oral and written test

Test is a tool used by the teacher to ensure himself to have the students’ capability to join his teaching and learning course. The oral test is usually conducted by appoint students to write the sentence in the whiteboard. On the other hand, written test is designed depends on the time and students need during the teaching or at the end of the teaching and learning.

In general the way of learning word or sentence order for the Junior students “SMP” find difficulty while they are assigned by their teacher to do the task in or out of the classroom. In my experience as the teacher in the government school, I found that most of my students write the word or sentence through their environment influences. It means that they try to write basically based on their mother tonque. Take a look at the following examples;

Deconstruction of a sentence is a vital skill in understanding language. Sentence analysis is not always easy but it is an essential tool in understanding how language works. Sentence analysis is often referred to as "Grammar" but the latter is a sometimes imprecisely used word for "a systematic account of the rules governing language" (Crystal). Analysis of a particular sentence will demonstrate that you have some understanding of the meaning of grammar, of what a rule is, of what is accepted usage and how to interpret meaning and its significance.

Nowadays, English is sophisticated need. It is a need to connect one country to another. Unfortunately, there are many people learn the language in a half way only. Because, many learners think that they still making mistake during communicate each other. grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation should be mastered. In short, English is difficult to learn.

The errors others make in English differ according to the characteristics of their first languages. Speakers from the first language tend to make some specific errors. The mistake made based on their purpose of the language that they needs. Most of first language learners learn English through their own language. They try to make English style to their own language, that’s why many mistake cannot avoided.

Best solutions

Common errors should be eliminate as soon as possible. But the most important to learn English correctly is the spirit or motivation of the learners. The question is how English become perfectly learnt?

Standard English learnt

Standard English is used if you want to be a professional writers, editors, teachers, and literate executives and personnel officers. But for daily needs it does not enforce you to learn formally. Therefore, wisely to learn English depend on your need.

Teaching and learning English

Teaching successfully is the main goal of the teaching and learning process. The main goal can be achieved if teaching document is prepared well. Without preparing himself or herself teaching and learning activity become bias. That is why, all the teachers made the teaching program before carrying out the material to the students. Therefore, the teachers are ready to teach the materials wherever he or she is.

Nowadays, Teaching and targeting the goal of teaching and learning are problems faced for almost classroom teacher. There are many things that affect the teaching and learning situation. Time restricted, facility, and students’ skill tend to stimulate whether the teaching or learning run successfully. Who is responsible with the condition? Everyone will say that “teachers”. It is not absolutely true, while the teaching and learning occur to both of them. As stated previously, there are three factors that creating and showing us whether the teaching or learning atmosphere successfully.

English teacher is the one of Indonesian teachers who face so many problems to present the material such as English to the new comer in Junior High School Level. The introduction of the language need long time to comprehend the students because the still influenced by their mother’s language. The rules of Indonesian language and English are quite different. From the Indonesian people point of view, English sentence is written through MD means : menerangkan diterangkan ( explain thing) rules, but Indonesian sentence is written through DM means : diterangkan menerangkan (thing is explained )rules. In addition, many problems are not mentioned yet. In short, teaching and learning English for the students is quite hard.

How do Indonesian English teacher solve the problems, primarily the teachers bring the lesson by using both of the languages, English and Indonesia. Take a look at, my experiences, In 1998, I was become a new teacher in Junior High school. It was the one of west Kalimantan territorial. With the high spirit got, I tried to teach the students with 100% using English as the communication transaction in teaching and learning process. but the situation in the classroom seems death. It is really bad but I never gave up. Day by day passed, I kept silent words, but I tried to find out what the matters with my students. Did I can not teach them? Running with the time, I tried to use the Indonesian Language, wow the class is really life. Some students respected to my subject. They did not afraid of making mistake when they answered my questions. I was really satisfied to my students at the time. After school, I returned to my house, I lied on my bed, I tried to record everything happen at school, especially teaching and learning process in the classroom. Therefore, I made some notes of my weaknesses during the teaching and learning process.

Second semester comes, I tried to change of using language with English proportion is more than Indonesian for the teaching and learning in the classroom. What happened to the teaching and learning activity?. The teaching and learning activity is change. English is not found more problems. Many students wanted to ask and study English. They did what assignment is given to them. Students’ participation grow well. As a teacher, I knew what my students need. I knew how to motivate them through my previously taught. Finally, I am able to identify what should I do for carrying out the successfully teaching and learning. From the illustration above, there are some points that showing us how to get better aim of teaching and learning. They are as follows ;

Learning through the real students’ environment.
Use both language Indonesian and target language
Provide the two languages proportionally
Use media for facilitating and more interesting teaching and learning
Be Communicatively to bring the lesson to the students

Introduction

Nowadays, Students grouping is a trend to popularize school to public. It is also the way how the teachers motivate others lower students to be better and better. Furthermore, Students grouping is well-known as the “ Favorite class “. It means the class that supply brilliant students in the groups. In short, students grouping is special gifted to appreciate the individual ability.

Writer’s point of view

Cluster within-class is easy work, but students grouping otherwise. So appropriate method of students grouping must be accurately. One of the main argument against the students grouping is blank expectation to the students improvement; expert say that the aim of teaching program in all school are ; cognitive, affective and psychomotor. It means teaching process is not only focus on students knowledge achievement but also behavior reflections, how they act with their environment.

Labeling students with the ability means disobey the two teaching process goal as stated above. May be some programmers successfully to carry out some students grouping. But no wonder that the other programmers still run in place or failure with the program. Is there any compromise between the two expectation and demand? Big questions appears what expectation does the school need? and what demand does the school think?

Skill and power are the sharpen needs to reach successfully life. Skill without power is useless, on the other hand, power without skill as if life without principle. Therefore as the wise teacher both of them should be blend together. In the globalization era, many sophisticate tools affects students’ attitude whether it is directly or indirectly. As a consequence, our students often do brutal things while they feel that they could not stand with the natural demand. For example, talkless with other people because they feel embraced of their failure while they join the final test.

Speaker performance is the mirror of supporting himself to be self confidence. He acts everything better in the real situation depends on his preparation before. Of course individual style is needed, for example wear neat clothes before acting.

Public speaking starts from simply transmitting information, to motivating people to act, to simply telling and should be able to change the emotions of their listeners, not just inform them. Public speaking can also be considered. Speaking have several components that embrace such things as motivational speaking, leadership/personal development, business, customer service, large group communication, and mass communication. Public speaking can be a powerful tool to use for purposes such as motivation, influence, persuasion, informing, translation, or simply entertaining.

Even people who are comfortable speaking in public tend to rehearse their speeches many times to get them just right. Practicing your speech many times will give you confidence in your ability to deliver. If your speech has a time limit, make sure to regulate the time yourself during practice runs and adjust your content or message as needed to fit within the time that you have. Lots of practice will go a long way toward boosting your self-confidence because your speech make the audiences boring. As a wise orator, you don’t want to make them sad or confused at the end of your speech, do you?

It is great if you care of the rules to the best speech deliver. In short, public speaking can be done better if the five basic stages stated above applied. In the end, preparing well for a speech or presentation gives you confidence that you have done everything possible to succeed. Give yourself the tools and the ability to succeed and see how well you do.

Introduction

Mastering genres means, mastering all elements that illustrate the genres as well as the way of writing it into real situation and real activity. Many students Look so busy with their work without any result while they submit their work paper to the teacher. Bad mark and many students writing is corrected through the red cross, wow… How poor do they!

Goal

To tell and to entertain readers and audiences with the real or unreal story that happened in the past. Mythos, myth, legend, and folktale belong to Narrative genre.

Structure framework

Structure framework is guideline that the students have to follow. They also called stages to begin students’ writing. Here are stages that students do;
1. Orientation : introducing actors, time and place.
2. Complication : something happened to the actors told
3. Resolution : ways used to escape from the problems
4. Re-orientation : How did the actor feel at the end of the story

Language Features

Language is the special characteristic that supporting word or sentence sequence used. Language used in narrative genre is Past forms, such as past perfect, past tense, past future tense and past continuous tense. Moreover the story starts particularly to “ once upon, ago, last “. Otherwise, narrative genre also need the correlative conjunction to unite the paragraph, for example; next, then, therefore, etc.

I Promised I”ll give my best to mum. Next Malin kundang is allowed to leave the house….

Malin Kundang grew older.he is 15 year old now. He left the house, he was looking for job. Meanwhile He met a richman in the harbour. He asked him: could you get me a job, Majesty?” the captain of the Merchant ship replied;” em..emm, actually yes! But what can you do yang man? ..Malin Kundang qiuet a moment then .he said ? I did as you wish sir! Then Malin Kundang was Accepted as the porter there! How happy Malin kundang was! He workes hard everyday.
The captain asked him to marry his daughter. And Malin kundang became the new captain of the ship. He was very rich, but unfortunately he was too proud and arrogant because his wealth.

One day Malin Kundang’s ship dropped by to Anchor at Batang Arau Harbour. His mother who had been waiting for years, heard sooner she went to see her beloved son, But What happened? Her son did not want to admit her. Why? He did not want his wife see the old and ugly woman coming to him as his mother.

His mother was very sad. She sorrowfully knelt down topray to god,’’oh god” I know he is but why has he turned so wicked? Please god don’t let’s this wickedness continue, please punish him as you wish!

When the ship sailed, suddenly the sky turned dark, and the strong win blew the ship violently. Malin Kundang and all of his quards were drowned. The ship turned upside down and it immediately turned into a stone.

Strategies to master genre

There are six English genres studied by the students in the Junior High School level. The genres are; descriptive, narrative, recount, report, anecdote and procedure. Each genres has its style, therefore students must know how they are going to study easily and enjoyable.

Teacher often teach genres into the classroom with more troublesome faced. But do they ever think, how to overcome or look for best teaching way? I think some of them think or care of the problems, how about the other teachers, I hope so.

According to writer, students’ difficulty can be edited or removed as sooner as possible. Let’s see writer’s way below;

1. Make sure that you have already planned your teaching program. It means that you always begin your teaching activity from the three main points. They are ; goal, generic structure and language features. These ways are important, because indirectly, we train students to keep our strategy in mind easily. Therefore, they will know how to start their learning to your subjects.

2. Teachers’ preparation should be more attention before they are carrying out the material (genres) in the classroom initially. Teacher must write an appropriate lesson plan concern with the one of the genres taught.

3. Make your good habit like using the worksheets and distribute them to your students, then, guide them to your clear aspects of the subject taught.

4. Each aspect should be taught clearly. Indeed, do not force your students to comprehend to the genre only one time teaching. In short, it needs more than one meeting.

5. Now, you are ready to perform your material

Teachers’ performance refers to their behavior, because of the way life, the students will have a judge, does he follow or not to something offered by his teacher. In short, all the subjects taught can be success or fail because of the ways of your teaching plan.

Teaching and learning are walking together, they can not be separated. Both of them is like the money used. They should be supported with one another. Teaching activity often become a serious problems. It is seen while the teaching learning process happen in the classroom. Consequently, many teachers complain and frustrated. How does it happen continuously? Imagine….by oneself.

I’m not an expert to judge teacher way of teaching, but I’m sorry to see that situation. Therefore, it encourages me to offer my experience as a teacher in junior high school, and also as the developer of curriculum in one of the level. How to be ready with the teaching program? Absolutely, the teacher should take care of the following ;

1^st check first the set of teaching administration.

2^nd design the teaching administration into appropriate ones

3^rd don’t forget to write a lesson plan for teaching in the classroom.

Teachers’ administration is really needed, because it guides them to be professional teacher. By having completely administration, teacher can do his teaching easily and valuable.

Design administration means how wise that the teacher divides the materials into the appropriate time allowed, such as the material that includes in the semester. For example; semester one and semester two. Materials in the first semester is not similar to the material in semester two.

Lesson plan is a plan that is written by the teacher to facilitate his teaching activity in the classroom on the exact time. Lesson plan describes what would be taught and achieved during the teaching learning at the time.

In short, to get successfully teaching, the teacher should performs everything with good preparation. Therefore main objective will satisfy the students.

Steps to teach

Functional text can be taught into four steps, they are ;

1st

State what your students’ strengths and weaknesses are and cater to them. Does he like to look at pictures or the computer monitor? In that case, he is probably a visual learner. Also, determine what subjects appeal to him. Write a list of things your students can and can't do as well as a list of subjects they likes.

2nd

Begin with some cards that covers a word and its picture. Attempt to get the child to associate the word with the picture. If possible, show the students other examples of that item. For example, if have a word card with the word "Pail" on it, in addition to the picture of the pail on the card, walk around the house showing him other pails. Write the word "pail" on index cards with a marker and stick it to other examples of "pail." It may take a few minutes, but they should eventually make the connection that the word and the object are the same thing. If your students can speak, have them say "pail" at the same time. If they can't speak, still say the word; they may start picking it up. If your students are not speaking, it would be a good idea to incorporate with those items as well.

3rd

Teaching action words by getting your child to perform the action. This is much more difficult than words that you can show. Make an index card with the word on it, show them the word, say the word, and then do whatever the word indicates. It will take a lot of time, patience and repetition but they should eventually catch on.

4th

Repeat to your students as often as you can. It is very important. Make the reading book on a subject your students more enjoyable. Because autistic children tend to be very literal with no imagination, make the books nonfiction or something completely believable with pictures that show events from the story. Ask questions and have your students answer you or point to the pictures. Make the questions very easy that can be answered directly from the text with no hidden meanings.

Indonesia is one of millions countries who places English as the main subject at school. It is one of the requirements for selecting students in the National Final Test. That is why, English become crucially subject, and it is included and demanded in the curriculum now. Therefore, all students in the country should be facilitated with the lesson. How important is English for the students?

The acquisition of English language is quiet important. English is studied in order to solve many problems happens to the students’ daily life, for example; operating computer in their school, operate cooking utensil at home, using their hand phone and so on.

Many Indonesian English teacher often face trouble while he is carrying out the subject to his students. Everything seems hardly to do. Most of the students do not respect with the material given. As the result, students get bad score and frustrated with the lesson. Who had made mistake with the process? Of course no one will openly to admit that he or she had made mistake.

Tips to teach English

Writer proudly reminds us with a little tips to teach students more interesting. It is about the preparation of English teacher creating the materials. Here are tips that the teacher can follow;

He studied islamic religion to his uncle, sunan kudus. after some time, he became an obedient young man. Sunan Muria was very proud of him.

One day, Sunan Muria asked Amir Hasan to go to somewhere to spread Islamic religion. his father asked him to go to an island that could be seen from Muria mountain. it was on the west - north of Jepara. this island seemed to be fade (Kremun-Kremun in Javanese). and from that time, people called the island as Karimun Java’s island.

Amir Hasan followed by his mate went to karimun Java island. They sailed to the island day and night and finally they reached the island. Then they did what his father said. Amir Hasan and his people lived in the island ever after.

Speech mistake

English learners often make mistakes while they are carrying out the foreign language into the real situation. Although they learn English at school regularly. They usually get more mistakes. Research shows that grammar mistake is a very complex problems to all beginner learns, because the language sources or native speaker speaks too fast to the learners. How to overcome the problem? Well, it is simply to answer that learners must accustomed with hearing or reading a lot of correct English grammar through television, radio, and printed media.

The first mistake of learners learn is speech, both teachers and students try to force the learners doing speech without considering learners preparation. As a result most students speak English very slowly because they are lost of self confidence. Remember, don’t force your students to do a speech with no guidance better. How do teachers guide them, they must support them with a motivation, for example ; say good, great, bravo or excellent to what they have just spoken or studied.

The second mistake of learners learn is textual follower. What is meant? Most English students learn only the formal English found in the textbook and school. Therefore, the learners will face more difficulties when they try to communicate each other. When speaking to friends, family, or co-workers, native speakers use casual English that is full of idioms, phrasal verbs, and slang. Commonly, the generic structures of Report text are general classification and description. On the other hand, the language use is simple present tense.

Functional text is a text, contains instruction or direction that should be followed. It is usually used in the daily life. Functional text can be ; short message, shopping list, warning, announcement and so on. See the example and assignment given below!

Teaching is a process of distributing knowledge. It can be successfully if the major goal taught is mastered by the learners . The way of teaching degree of comparison means that how the degree of Comparison knowledge is understandable.

Indonesian new English teacher often find difficulty to bring the lesson to his or her students. Don’t you know why? Because the way of teaching degree of comparison runs ineffectively or ambiguous. Therefore, their English teaching program is failure.

Degree of comparison is a level of thing, animal or people are compared according to the characteristic that their specifically have. There are two characteristics that the teacher can get. they are adjective and adverb of the subjects.

When I was a new English teacher at The Junior High School , I commonly started the lesson with certain rule. With high motivation burned I forced my students to recall all the rule based on my lesson destination. I did it every time I taught them in all classroom that I was in. In teaching learning activity, I wrote troublesome that I found in piece of paper.

Based on the observation, I found that the students felt sleepy and sleepy, went the rest room and disturbed one another. If it happened continuously, I could not imagine how poor my English teaching was. Finally, I tried to use the new strategy. here are the steps that I apply:

Pre teaching

Before beginning the teaching process, attract students to use visual pictures concern with the topic that you teach. For example; 3 students in different height, 3 books with different total pages in each.

Process

Explains the adjective or adverb for the subject that comparing
Count number of syllable that the subject has
Write the sentences based on the degree of the subject. Remember! teacher must introduces them with : affirmative, comparative and superlative sentence.

Closing

Ask one or two students to write the degree of comparison sentence in the board.
Conclude students work. Then, tell them the result.

Best conclusion

In order to have a real students’ achievement of the objective, the teacher must give them assignment that they do. Teacher gives two to five easy and different types of regular and irregular adjective or adverb. Remember, Teacher must give a clear instruction before the students do their task. At the end of their work, teacher must scores their work. Then, report the score to them.
