Word and Sentence Order Problems
to Junior High School (SMP)
In general the way of learning word or sentence order for the Junior students “SMP” find difficulty while they are assigned by their teacher to do the task in or out of the classroom. In my experience as the teacher in the government school, I found that most of my students write the word or sentence through their environment influences. It means that they try to write basically based on their mother tonque. Take a look at the following examples;
(a) Source language:
1. Ibu membeli buku baru
2. Ibu membeli buku
3. Ibu membeli buku baru berwarna merah
Students wrong writing can be seen;
1. Mother buys book new
2. Mother buys book
3. Mother buys book new red
(b) Target language
1. Mother buys new book
2. Mother buys new book
3. Mother buy new red book
Deconstruction of a sentence is a vital skill in understanding language. Sentence analysis is not always easy but it is an essential tool in understanding how language works. Sentence analysis is often referred to as "Grammar" but the latter is a sometimes imprecisely used word for "a systematic account of the rules governing language" (Crystal). Analysis of a particular sentence will demonstrate that you have some understanding of the meaning of grammar, of what a rule is, of what is accepted usage and how to interpret meaning and its significance.
From the ilustrations above, teacher with all the weaknesess needs more help to the other educators in the world to discover and facilitate me to make teaching learning process at the level ‘SMP’ Junior High School easier and many thank to you that hear and give direct or indirectly suggestion for improving the teaching and learning word and sentence order succesfully.
