Strategies to master genre

There are six English genres studied by the students in the Junior High School level. The genres are; descriptive, narrative, recount, report, anecdote and procedure. Each genres has its style, therefore students must know how they are going to study easily and enjoyable.

Teacher often teach genres into the classroom with more troublesome faced. But do they ever think, how to overcome or look for best teaching way? I think some of them think or care of the problems, how about the other teachers, I hope so.

According to writer, students’ difficulty can be edited or removed as sooner as possible. Let’s see writer’s way below;

1. Make sure that you have already planned your teaching program. It means that you always begin your teaching activity from the three main points. They are ; goal, generic structure and language features. These ways are important, because indirectly, we train students to keep our strategy in mind easily. Therefore, they will know how to start their learning to your subjects.

2. Teachers’ preparation should be more attention before they are carrying out the material (genres) in the classroom initially. Teacher must write an appropriate lesson plan concern with the one of the genres taught.

3. Make your good habit like using the worksheets and distribute them to your students, then, guide them to your clear aspects of the subject taught.

4. Each aspect should be taught clearly. Indeed, do not force your students to comprehend to the genre only one time teaching. In short, it needs more than one meeting.

5. Now, you are ready to perform your material

The four strategies shown above is the writer’s experiences note. It may be helpful to all English Junior High school teacher. That’s why, writer would like to promote the ways done in order to apply or offer the method.
